I, Chris Kerr-Peterson, began my collaboration with Andre Hugo (Orthodontist) in 2013. Working with Andre and his excellent team, we wanted to develop something that would empower the team, give patients unprecedented control over their treatment and ultimately make Orthodontics more about treating patients and less about struggling with business challenges.
We launched an online booking system in 2013, and we were pleasantly surprised at how effectively this system worked at empowering our patients and reducing the burden on our reception team. We continued to focus on building the business and improving operations, continuously using technology to solve our operational challenges.
In 2017 we built a minimum viable product of Hugo Systems, where we explored how to use data we had been gathering to improve operations further. We quickly discovered excellent operational improvements that we could unleash within the business by increasing transparency and making data more accessible to our team and patients.
We found our patients were increasingly demanding more information, we wanted to harness new technologies within the business to assist with these demands. There was no system on the market that provided us with what we needed without imposing high costs, locking us into annual renewals and holding us hostage for our data.
These frustrations drove us to start the development of our fullyfledged Hugo Systems in 2018. Our integrated fully cloud-based practice management application went live at Andre's busy Johannesburg practice in September 2019. We have built functionality into Hugo Systems side-by-side with the clinical team. Understanding the complex operational needs of orthodontic businesses and the strong drive for cloud-based services sets Hugo Systems apart from many other options on the market.
We always intended to make this application accessible to other orthodontists in the market. We believe that making orthodontics better for all patients, not just ours, is tremendous, and we hope our system resonates with solving some of your orthodontic management challenges.
